If you have not heard this by now, it’s often said that the “eyes are the window to your soul.” Which means that you can tell a lot about a person just by looking at their eyes. Your eyes say it all. To take it one step further your eyes can tell you about how good your overall health is. And now we’ll get into the 8 things your eyes can tell you about your health.
8 Things Your Eyes Can Tell You About Your Health That You May Not Know
1) Stubborn Stye
Styes can be annoying, painful lasting anywhere from a few days to months. How do you develop a stye? Your eyelids have oil glands in them, that become blocked, which results in a stye. So, what about a stubborn stye? A stubborn stye will most likely be more painful, than a regular stye and could be a signal of a rare form of cancer – sebaceous gland carcinoma. To sum it up if you have a stye that persists for a long time in the same place, you should go make an appointment with your eye doctor.
2) Thinning Eyebrows
What are common causes of thinning eyebrows? Stress, nutritional deficiency, even aging. Also, spot balding, but that only affects a small percentage of the population. Thyroid disease can also, be a cause of thinning eyebrows. How? It can alter your hormones causing thinning eyebrows. If your eyebrows are thinning it may be worth your while to check with your doctor to rule out any possibility of thyroid disease.
3) Blurry Vision
If your job requires you to sit in front of a computer all day, then you may experience blurry vision or burning eyes. Which can do more harm than good over the long haul. As a matter of fact this is so common these days that there is a name for it called – Digital Eye Strain. Because not only are you staring at a computer screen, you do the same with your phone, tablet, etc. If this continues you need to seek consultation from an eye doctor.
4) Blind Spots
If you’ve experienced a blind spot it can scare the you know what out of you. But a blind spot can also mean that you’re experiencing a migraine aura – where you see a wavy line or shimmering lights. A headache can sometimes follow. If you experience this with any consistency you should not wait and go to your doctor.
5) Bulging Eyes
If you ever feel a bulging sensation in your eyes, there may be an issue with your thyroid. More specifically this may be a sign of hyperthyroidism, which means your thyroid is too active. Meaning you create too much thyroid hormone. Or Grave’s disease. So it would be in your best interest to go to your doctor.
6) Yellow Whites In Your Eyes
If this happens you’ll be able to notice this right away. Especially in newborns. The yellowing of the eyes indicates a problem with the liver. Also known as Jaundice. Your gallbladder, or bile duct may be the culprit as well. So, it would make sense to make an appointment with your primary care doctor immediately.
7) Blurred Vision In Diabetics
If you’re a diabetic you’re more than likely to develop diabetic retinopathy which damages the blood vessels in the back of your eye (retina). This can cause blurry vision. If you’re a diabetic and you’re experiencing blurry vision, seek medical attention ASAP.
