This is a debate that continues to be talked about on the internet machine day after day. How long should your blog post be? How long does it need to be for SEO purposes? Social media? So on and so forth. Now, I must warn you. I am not going to go into detail and bore you with all kinds of statistics about what study said what and you need to do this per that blogging guru, etc. Instead we’ll look at blog posts in 2016.
Well, What’s the point of writing this blog post then, if you’re not going to give supporting statistics?
Simple. We’re going to take a common sense approach to this topic given the times we’re in. A majority of life and business is based on common sense.
Sound like a plan?
What Is The Required Length of Blog Posts in 2016?
What’s the first thing someone does when they want to find an answer to a question?
They whip out their phone and type that question into Google.
They want a simple answer to their question like yesterday.
And all they’re looking for is a short, succinct answer. Not a long monologue or diatribe. A quick short answer.
Why is that?
A) You can’t be bothered with scrolling through some 1,000 word or more document trying to find an answer. You want that answer NOW!
B) Time. You don’t have time. And/or don’t have the patience to read a bunch of words looking for the answer.
C) Your attention span is that of a toddler. Therefore you need, right to the point.
The same can be said for your blog posts in 2016. You don’t have time to read through 2,000, or 3,000 words at a time, no matter how epic that content is. Except, if you’re reading Neil Patel. That’s the lone exception. That man is awesome at what he does!
So, you need to be straight to the point.
What are your thoughts?
What this all boils down to is you need to create blog posts for the user, visitor, reader in mind.
And in this day and age given the time constraints you experience each day those blog posts need to deliver that information in a manner that is:
- In a format easy to consume such as a list
I know you blogging purists are bursting at seams saying to yourself:
- Blog posts need to be at least 1,000 to 2,000 words long at a minimum for SEO and social media purposes.
Who does this clown think he is saying blog posts should be short and to the point?
I hate to say it but it’s true. We do not have patience as a society and we want information quicker and faster than ever before.
I will say this that I have a blog post that is only 323 words long and it ranks number 1 in Google beating the likes of Kissmetrics and Captora with no back links to boot!
It’s short, to the point, and informative!
I don’t think so.
Here is the link to that blog post. By the way this blog post was written in February 2016.
So, this blog post is only over 500 words.
That’s all that was needed to have this informative conversation and you don’t have time to waste reading anything longer.
If you made it here to the end and like what you read, tell your friends by sharing on Facebook, Twitter, or Pinterest.
