As a small business owner you need to be constantly thinking of ways to acquire more customers. Problem is there are only so many conventional ways to do so. We’re going to give you some new customer acquisition ideas that are outside the box.
Sound like a plan to you?
What’s in it for you if you read this blog post from top to bottom?
Simple. New customer acquisition ideas that will help you bring in more customers and grow your business.
Do you want more customers?
Do you want to grow your business?
Your answer should be “Yes” and “Yes”
Remember this one little thing.

The first new customer acquisition idea will focus on utilizing your existing customers as the
new customer acquisition strategy
Why would you use your existing customers to get new ones?
Your existing customers already buy from you.
They know, like, and trust you, your product/service, company, customer service. Pretty much every thing about you!
And who better to sell your products/services than them?
Because a prospect will believe an existing customer of yours a lot faster than they will believe you.
- Go to your existing customers and tell them that you’ll give them 20% off your products/services for the remainder of 2016 just for being a customer.
Why would you do that?
Because you value your customers.
Again without them you’re screwed. You would go out of business.
Now how do you deliver that message to each of your existing customers?
Keep it simple.
Less is more.
Send this information to your existing customers in the manner in which you communicate with them – i.e. email, phone, text message, send them a message on social media – Twitter, Facebook, etc.
What will that message look like?
We value you as a customer and appreciate your business. As a result we’re offering you 20% off our products/services for the remainder of 2016.
Why are we doing this?
Without you as a customer we would not be in business.
You’re what makes our business go.
So, thank you.

Now, how is this going to work as a new customer acquisition strategy exactly?
You have made your customers feel special!
[tweet_box design=”default” float=”none”]Once you make your customers feel special, word about your business will start to spread like wild fire![/tweet_box]
- See, there is no hook here, you’re not asking your customer for anything. Instead you’re giving them something without expecting anything in return.
That’s why this works as a new customer acquisition strategy.
We devoted an entire blog post about the effectiveness of word of mouth marketing. You should give it a quick once over in addition to reading this blog post.

What are your thoughts?
How do you track return-on-investment utilizing this new customer acquisition idea?
There’s no hard and fast answer to that question to be completely honest with you.
Start tracking your sales the minute after you send that message to your existing customers. And if you start to notice an immediate rise in sales and you’re tracking over what was projected, then it is working.
I would start tracking the remaining 3 quarters of 2016 and if you see that your sales are exceeding forecast for the year, then you know this new customer acquisition strategy did it’s job.
Are you picking up, what I am putting down fellow small business owner?
The second, new customer acquisition idea will involve your existing customers once again as part of the
Customer acquisition process along with giving away money!
What do you mean giving away money?
I mean you’re going to give away money as part of the second customer acquisition process involving your existing customers.
Here’s how it’s going to work.
You, reach out to your existing customers and you tell them for every person they refer to your business, you will give them –
CASH, cold hard cash in the form of an American Express gift card.
- Only exception is that the person who is referred to you has to BUY something from you in order to receive their American Express gift card.
Makes sense right?
Who doesn’t want money?
Who doesn’t want money to do as they please?
Rather than a credit or gift card to some random retail store that your customer could care less about.
Also, money is a tremendous motivator for pretty much the entire universe.
Almost anyone would do anything for a buck?
Do you agree?
So, how much money are you going to give for each customer referral?
Well, you have to give enough money that will really entice your existing customers to give you referrals that will result in a sale.
It has to be enough to drive behavior.
$20, $25, $50, $100?
It all depends on what 1 customer is worth to you.
Let’s say that a customer is worth $1,000 to you, then $100 referral fee will be enough to motivate your existing customer to send you a referral that will buy?
Will you spend $100 to get $1,000?
You’ll do that every day of the week and twice on Sunday!
Chances are it will cost you more than $100 to get a quality lead that will lead to a customer using other forms of customer acquisition marketing.
We touched on this very topic yesterday in our blog post. Take a peak as you will benefit greatly from doing so.

Last, but not least before reaching out to your existing customers to talk to them about this referral program, you need to decide whether to put a time limit on it. Create a sense of urgency.
I would create a sense of urgency, but put a longer time limit on it like 90 days.
You’ll get more referrals which equals more new customer that way.
Common sense really.
What’s this message look like?
We wanted to let you know we appreciate your business. We really do.
Which is why we want to tell you about a new referral program just for you.
For every person you refer to us that buys, we will give you a
$100 American Express gift card.
There is no limit to how many people you can refer.
And this program is going on for the next 90 days expiring on 5/22/16
