Parents found guilty of child cruelty in Georgia for locking their son – 12 at the time in a basement for 2 years. And according to a jury they were convicted of child cruelty. When deliberating whether it was a lesser second-degree charge versus a first-degree charge, the jury decided it to be second degree. Why? The parents are more negligent than malicious. If it were you, you’d probably think the opposite.
Locking their son up in the basement (for 18 months) was considered as punishment for the 12-year old. To make matters worse these same parents also neglected to care for another of their son’s malignant cancer.
None of this would’ve been found out unless the authorities received an anonymous tip and the parents were arrested in 2014.
This is inexcusable and no man, woman, or child should have to endure anything like this, ever.
The parents face up to 30 years in prison as a result of these charges.
